VIRTUAL FESTIVALS (UK)
Rise To Addiction shred with such pure anthemic greatness that even a mute would sing along. The Saturday openers epic Metallica moments are laced with eccentric melodies so carefully crafted that a sweatshop worker could only marvel in awe. Therapy?, Tool and Chris Cornell all spring to mind as ingredients tossed in the melting pot, as Leigh Oates' incredible voice draws intrigued fans like flies to honey-covered shit. |

BACON MUSIC (UK)
After two relatively dry days, the weather turned horrible on Saturday. It rained all day, and all night, with the only respite being the odd trip to the beer tent. Like true metal warriors though, the Bloodstock faithful dug out their ponchos and gathered for the final day of fun-filled metal action. I was glad that I got myself to the arena early enough to catch British newcomers RISE TO ADDICTION.
This band has a great modern sound, something along the lines of a more metalised ALICE IN CHAINS and are well worth catching live if you can! |

ROOM THIRTEEN (UK)
**I guess he doesn't like Leigh's jacket!**
Let me just get this out of the way right at the beginning, can Leigh Oates, singer with RTA please get himself a bigger jacket or at least stop messing about with the one he's got, it is really distracting when every time he moves it rides up and he has to keep pulling it down again, the fact that I even noticed it must mean he did it a lot so chuck it away and get a bigger one.
Anyway, moving on, it's 12 noon and RTA are second on the bill, they are following some very young guys that played metal for youngsters (Beyond all reason), RTA thank god have a lot more balls in the metal department which seems to have attracted a much bigger crowd and they are doing their best to wake up Bloodstock.
The music is quite groovy, it's not funky but just the kind that makes you do that slow dipping head nodding that only a good groove can, Leigh built up a good rapport with the crowd and they had them on board by the half way point. They have some good songs too with 'Low' being a bit of highlight for me, you can hear it on their myspace page but be aware that they usually play a bit more up tempo than this.
All in all a good performance, one which set the crowd up for the rest of the day. Leigh Just needs to stop playing with that jacket. |

Saturday 18th August
Ah, now this is more like it. With the weather being somewhat disappointing today, only the line-up could improve the mood of 4000-odd metalheads, and the general consensus seemed to be that it would. The day for me opened with Rise To Addiction [7]. The noon cloud and fine rain (soaks you through) beleagured some anticipation, however RTA spectacularly delivered with a set filled with a feast of heavy yet catchy rock anthems that you keep thinking you’ve heard before. They unfortunately went slightly under-appreciated on the day but this performance coupled with their stonker of a new album leads me to believe that great things are in the offing. |

ROCK MATRIX (UK)
Rise To Addiction ( followed and immediately upped the gears. An extremley
solid set of heavy, groove orientated metal dragged the crowd closer with mighty
fine tracks like 'Cold season' providing the melody. With a singer like Leigh
Oates Rise To Addiction will be around for the long haul. |

Rockers Digest (UK)
With the weather heading downhill, Cold Season was a very fitting opener from Rise To Addiction. Even with the gusting wind, John Slater & Steve Wray’s guitars were fairing well through the P.A. and Low hit the mark with its big hook of a chorus. Vocalist Leigh Oates worked the crowd tirelessly, indulging in some sort of monkey dance to the “filthy groove” of Joel Graham’s bass during One Sweet Minute.
The familiar guitar line of Falling As One meant the end was nigh and the set finished on a high, with a number of fans heading over to the merchandise stall to meet the band as offered earlier by Oates. I’m not sure if they all bought him a beer as he cheekily suggested!
Rise To Addiction set list:
Cold Season / I Follow / Low / To A God Unknown / One Sweet Minute / Falling As One |
